Thank you everyone - very glad to help.

I think the reason that no-one has translated this text is simply that most ancient literature is untranslated, and none of our professional academics ever felt the urge to do this one, so it stayed that way. There are reams and reams of dull, fictional NT apocrypha, after all.

One problem is that no academic can just translate stuff. The funding system means that he must publish "research", which means we get loads of cruddy papers which exist mainly to justify the funding of the academic's post, as well as the good stuff. I don't envy them all, in truth.

'Tis we humble slaves who must lead the way. Which, on Saturnalia, is perhaps appropriate.

All the best,

Roger Pearse

Just an update. I've had an approach from an academic who specialises in the Apocrypha, asking about this translation of the Acts of Pseudo-Linus. He wants to include it in an upcoming collection. I hope it will happen.

I think we all owe Pete a debt for stirring up interest in this obscure item - thank you.

We owe you a great deal in this forum for you are a talented and original thinker living out in the jungle of the unknown. I am like so many others a prisoner in a zoo fed on marcionite leftovers.

Keep in touch, old boy
