To be fair, I think that GWB also sent out political sounding messages on Ramadan and the Eid, since he is courting Muslim voters. He also participated in lighting a Menorah and a Christmas tree in early December. He issued a Kwanzaa greeting on the same day he made his Christmas greeting,
I bet that if pagans were a big enough voting block and he thought he might get their votes, he would do some modified, innocuous pagan ritual on Dec 21. And, or course, if atheists were a big enough voting block, he would throw some crumbs our way. I just find it annoying that Bush speaks as if "Jesus Christ, our Savior" were an established fact or an agreed on value, instead of a very contentious issue. |

I think that a Xmas greeting is probably OK legally. But all this God talk is very annoying coming from the country which intially came up with the concept of separation.
Do those of you who see nothing wrong with this also see nothing wrong with declaring National days of Prayer and Fasting? [ December 22, 2002: Message edited by: GaryP ]
|

As nausiating as that glurge is I think the prez acted legally. He pronounced his faith but he didn't make any law requiring me to give a nod to his god. I can live with that. I just reserve the right to make fun of someone that still believes in santa and probably thinks Benny Hin is for real. It's just sad that our president is superstitious. At least he's not consulting astrologers. Who am I kidding, Billy Graham is worse than an astrologer.

You hold enough opinions that you are bound to be right now and again. Phew, I was afraid I was doomed to be forever wrong on II. Or does that mean some of my wisdom is rubbing off on you guys? |

well, you have the word "right" in your name so you're not doomed to be wrong when "Right" appears on ever one of your posts

Oh yes, I'm so thrilled that George W. Bush, private citizen, is able to use the power of the Office of the President, to send out statements like that.
It's bad enough I had to get a copy of that in my email at work (since he's my ultimate boss). "Hey there, I'm Shrub Bush, private citizen. I'm using the God-granted power of every (good, God-Fearing) American citizen to call a press conference and have every word I say published in the (liberal left-wing) news media across this great (God-fearing but still blessed) land. Thank you, and may my/our (the only REAL) God bless America." pfui, Michael |

The issue for me is not entirely SCOTUS ~ rather the whole tirelessly perpetuated mischaracterization that Christianity is a religion of *peace* and *tolerance* somehow linked to being an *American*.
