Don't pray in my school, and I won't think in your church.

I always enjoy the colossal arrogance of types like that principal. "We're doing What's Best(tm)" because, of course, NOT praying and venerating Sky Daddy will get all the poor chilluns cooked in Hay-ull!
And this guy is an educator? |

Fastfalcon: "My opinion?...it does not violate his rights to say a prayer or say, "God bless you"!!! Sad."
This is a public school event, funded by taxpayers' money: when the superintendent (a government employee) says a prayer invoking Christ, it most certainly does violate his rights. The courts have been consistent about that for years; it constitutes a violation of the establishment clause of the first amendment. The only thing that's sad about it is that people still have to sue to protect themselves from government-sponsered displays of Christian faith. Well, it's not the only sad thing. Your lack of understanding of constitutional law is also pretty pathetic. |

Ballistic Buteo:
The Supreme Court's opinion is that school-sponsored prayer DOES violate his rights. I think their constitutional knowledge trumps yours by, well, a bit. |

Here is the only place on religous restriction:
Amendment 1 Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. |
