Woo-hoo! My new Congresswoman will be <a href="http://www.house.gov/slaughter/louise.htm" target="_blank">Louise M. Slaughter</a>. From her site:
- "one of the most powerful women in Congress" - "House Rules Committee" - "strong proponent of progressive causes" - "A microbiologist with a Master's Degree in public health" - winner of the Zeta Beta Tau "Defender of Religious Freedom Award" I didn't think they made liberal anymore outside of California and Massachusetts! And I have no idea what church or religious groups she belongs to, as she doesn't even mention them on her web page! Compare her credentials with a jackass like <a href="http://watts.house.gov/bio.asp" target="_blank">J.C. Watts</a>. Half his biography is about either his football career or his bible-humping. At least he managed to get his degree in football, errr, journalism. I'm sure Peter Jennings is thrilled to consider him a colleague. [au]I guess people in Rochester are just smarter than people in Norman, OK. But then, who isn't?[/au] Andy |

What a gem of a representative.
She's an Episcopalian (<a href="http://www.yourcongress.com/profile.asp?member_id=458" target="_blank">Profile</a>) |

I sent this to my Representative:
To the Honorable David L. Hobson, I must express my appreciation at your "NAY" vote yesterday on H.R. 2357, the dangerously misleadingly-named "Houses of Worship Political Speech Protection Act" proposed by Rep. Jones (R-NC). This bill would have provided organized religious groups with actual "special rights" over similar non-religious non-profit groups. This is especially ironic when one considers that so many of these groups, especially fundamentalists of whatever ilk, decry any perceived "special rights" granted to other groups, even when these so-called "special rights" are actually just an extension of "equal rights". Thank you for taking a stand against this hypocrisy. I am even more gratified when I consider that a large portion of your constituents, a large majority of your Republican colleagues, and the Bush administration were in favor of this proposal. Thank you for considering the civil rights of all Americans over such partisan concerns. Andy |

Until 1990 my Congressman was infamous gadfly, criminal and side show attraction Jim Traficant. It's tough to express in words how grateful I am for having lived the past twelve years in <a href="http://www.house.gov/kaptur/index.shtml" target="_blank">Marcy Kaptur's</a> district.
She'll soon be receiving a glowing thank-you letter from me for her vote on Jones's bill, and will continue getting big fat contribution checks from me for as long as she sees fit to stay in politics. |

My current rep, the turkey necked dick head Brian Kerns voted Yea. Fortunately, he got his dumbass kicked in the primaries by Steve Buyer(pronounced Booyer), who voted Nay.
The Indiana vote split 5/5 with Buyer being the only Republican to note no. |
