Too bad. Now churches will have to use their money and volunteers to, I don't know, feed the hungry and clothe the destitute (the way many already do, I should say).

It's instructive how the vote broke down along party lines.

This is a good sign.
I thought that the House would pander to the Religious Right and pass the bill, and let the Senate kill it. But they didn't even have to do that. |

Yippee!
It's good to be reminded that we aren't always the ignored minority. Even though most Democrats voted "correctly" and most Republicans did not, it's also instructive to consider those members who voted the unexpected way. [ October 02, 2002: Message edited by: beejay ]</p> |

Outstanding news, especially in view of the fact that forty-six Republicans jumped ship. Considering the outrageous nonsense that took place on the Hill after Newdow, a 239-178 "nay" vote qualifies as an old fashioned, down home, country style ass whuppin'.

For once things go the right way!
Notice that list of religious and quasi-religious organizations read like a who's-who of non-right-wing oriented churches; that plus the vote breakdown showed that everyone knew pretty much who would have benefited from that bill. |

Walter B. Jones Jr. is an embarrassment to the state of North Carolina. He is also a disgrace to his father Walter B. Jones, Sr. who was a Democrat (now deceased). If he were alive he'd kick Junior's ass. (Jr. started out as a Dem, but went over to the dark side)
