I remember hearing that when I was a fundy and thinking it was a good argument. Now that's scary. (OK. To be fair, I was only six years old at the time.)

A comeback I've used that seems to stop them in their tracks is this: "If I were to argue against your religion, should I argue with what you say it is, or should I argue against what some atheist has told me it is?"

"Now ask yourself: are you arguing against evolution with what scientists actually teach about it, or are you arguing with what your church has told you scientists say?"

I always ask "what happens to evolution if we sterilize creation?"

A good example of this is found in the preservation of foods. The same is true on a large scale such as with the "mammoth" they found in Siberia recently.

Therefore, I hold that creation is the leading edge of evolution and those who argue in favor of evolution just say that things change and therefore evolution is true. This leaves creation with the omniscient perspective and evolution with the third party perspective.

The one that really gets me is the way these arguments come down to the fact that they don't put their trust in man and his theories. Makes you wonder where they think man got his brain from. And then we start getting Bible verses about how much better it is to be a fool for the Lord than pretend to be wise and how the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake is the work of the devil.

It's this whole anti-intellectual thing again - the "don't threaten my blissful ignorance, I know how I feel" attitude.

And yet a great difficulty in explaining human origins is the sad fact that our hominid ancestors & cousins are no longer around. Of course, if H. habilis was still alive (working as migrant laborers? ), you'd hear the argument, "If we came from Homo habilis, why is Homo habilis still here?"

Then you've got the paradox of missing "evidence".
A Fundie will not miss an opportunity to show where evidence is missing in any miniscule theory. They will make such notice that it proves its wrong.

But when you ask of the fact that evidence is missing from the Flood, Exodus, Jesus' resurrection, etc... they claim that it just hasn't been found yet.

That is the double standard I detest the most.
