Helen, while saying "Praise God, it's a miracle!" they could at least throw in a little "and the doctors were pretty decent too."

Helen, how can we be mischaracterizing conservative Christians when this is the only public face they display when these sorts of things happen? It's not whether conservative Christians "really" understand and appreciate the human accomplishment of separating conjoined twins (or rescuing trapped miners, etc.). I suppose you're right that many of them do. It's that they seemingly never display the proper public gratitude for these accomplishments.
It's always a "miracle" and God gets the credit. |

They could.
But if they don't, it doesn't mean they are totally dismissing the skill of the doctors. Anyway, maybe some Christians can't be thankful to God and appreciative of the doctors at the same time. I don't know. There are a lot of Christians out there and I don't know most of them. There are enough that I daresay some of them are not very good at thinking analytically. All I know is that some can do both. And I don't like stereotypes, labelling, over-generalizations... |

So, it's not mischaracterizing if Christians draw conclusions about atheists based on a few comments or actions from a few public figures? Why characterize at all? What's the difference between characterizing and stereotyping? |
