Default Jessica Lynch scores big

Tonight while watching the CBC there was an expose on the Jessica Lynch contreversy. The Reporter for the Toronto Sun discovered what is believed to be the truth in the strange tale spun by the Pentagon.

According to witnesses interviewed in Iraq by the Reporter as well as other sources Lynch was injured in a transport crash while trying to escape from enemy fire after transport she was in was given wrong directions by other US soldiers. She was never shot, stabbed or tortured as the Washington Post and the Pentagon asserted. In fact she was well taken care of by the Iraqis that captured her in fact they probably saved her life. They attempted to return her to US forces but were forced to turn around when the ambulance they were in was fired upon by US troops.

Just after the Toronto Sun story ran the Pentagon announced that Lynch is now suffering from amnesia from the trauma of her ordeal. But according to the doctors in the hospital in Iraq she was very chatty and friendly during her stay there which directly contradicts the Pentagon story.

Most of you already know most of this but I wanted to bring it up again because I just found out about a CBS/Viacom deal that has been struck with Lynch. Apparently she is going to get a 2 hour TV movie, her own episode on TRL with atleast 2 celebs, a primetime interview special, a Country Music special and a couple of other things that I can't recall now.

Heres the rub. Why? If we now know that she was just the victim of a car crash and is not the hero that the Pentagon made her out to be why is she getting this sort of treatment? Does CBS know something we don't or did they get taken for a ride by a girl that either can't say anything about the ordeal because she dosen't remember it or more likely because she is under orders from the government to keep her trap shut?

I so want the truth to be revealed here but I don't feel its likely. Americans will believe what they want and they obviously want to believe that Bush is our saviour and Lynch is a hero. It is so fucking sad!

The "why" is obvious; Bush needs anything he can get to divert attention away (as always) from everything wrong about his administration and the actions they've undertaken. Who owns CBS and what are their ties to the White House is the only question that should be asked in this regard.

The neocons have learned that nobody matters or cares about the truth, so, as Hitler once supposedly said, "The bigger the lie, the more people will believe it," or words to that effect.

So even if CBS isn't a puppet, it will still be in their financial interest to go allong with the whitewash, since it means ratings.

Broadcasters (thanks primarily to Rupert Murdoch, believe it or not) have become true whores always looking for their next "John," and here comes one fat and governmentally approved.

Remember, CBS' integrity ended conclusively and irretrievably with Sixty Minutes (then owned by Larry Tisch) cave-in regarding "Big Tobacco" (of which Larry's son was the CEO of Newport Cigs; something never divulged, even in the film with Al Pacino and Russel Crowe supposedly "blowing the lid off" the whole affair).

The Truth? You can't handle the truth!

Didn't you know? She's just living the American Dream, or in this case the American Delusion.

On PBS's NewsHour last night, they had a discussion about the Lynch case and 98% revolved around the Viacom deal.

These questions about the veracity of the story were barely touched upon.

CNN discussed it pretty thoroughly, including that she was injured in a HumVee crash, her rifle was damaged in the impact and never fired, the special ops soldiers met little resistance outside and none inside, she was expertly taken care of by the excellent Iraqi hospital staff who had tried to take her to American lines in an ambulance and were fired on, that she didn't have amnesia then and her family says she doesn't have it now, that the pentagon had now confirmed these details and it was all a bunch of hype and no heroism, that her unit had no business being that far in the unprotected rear without escort, bad leadership, bad training etc.

It was more Bush team bait and switch, managing the media and public attention.

Yep,
"don't break my arm, my achy breaky arm,
I just don't think you understan'
And if you break my arm, my achy breaky arm,
I'll just have to kill Saddam"
(to achy breaky heart)

Or,
"I fell into an Iraqi fire fight,
ammo went down, down, down,
and the kills went higher,
and I was shot, shot, shot in that fire fight, in that fire fight"
(to ring of fire, of course)

And they could play it for the non-prisoners of war in cuba. As non-torture, don't cha know.
