BSA in Elementary School -- Ideas?
Hi all,
I just read in the weekly newsletter from my kid's school that the Parent Teacher Org. (PTO) has decided to sponsor the local boy scout troop again. My son starts 1st grade there in fall and my daughter is currently in 2nd grade. I wrote the head of PTO a couple of months ago about the PTO sponsoring the BSA through free advertising in the weekly newsletter. Since that time there have been no ads concerning the BSA. I had no idea that there was an official relationship between the BSA and the PTO. Here is my question to the group. While I don't think I can change this relationship short term, what can I do to publicize this relationship in hopes of embarrassing the PTO into voting differently next year? The vote was 5 abstentions and 10 yes's. I live in a fairly liberal school district and I think I have a chance on this issue. Any suggestions? Thanks, Donald |

Any chance of getting a non-religious youth group going? Perhaps something like Scouting for All, or a youth group from a freethough group (if there is such a thing). Ask for the same advantages the BSA will get. Hopefully the PTO will recognize its hyprocracy.
This would likely be a multi-year project. Simian |

Are they aware that the BSA discriminates on the basis of religion? Making them aware of that is the first step.
Most people know about how the BSA discriminates against homosexuals but the issue of discriminating on the basis of religion gets much less publicity. |
