Default The media salivates at the thought of war

I don't know about the rest of you but I am sickened by the medias joy in the thought of invading Iraq. With shows like Countdown to Iraq or Showdown Saddam it is obvious they are more anxious than Bush to get this thing rolling.

Yea, these are the actions of left leaning media!

You have to admit that it is shaping up to be an interesting spectacle. Bush has been beating the drums of war for months, and we still don't have a good casus belli to go in with. Congress has given him the go-ahead, and US taxpayers have spent millions in building up our forces there. Everything is ready to go, and we are all waiting with baited breath. Nobody expects us to simply dismantle the war machine and go home.

So what happens next? Hitler had it easy. He just rounded up 12 prisoners from Buchenwald, poisoned them, dressed them in Polish uniforms, and deposited them in German territory. That was all he needed to justify his invasion.

George Bush has a tougher row to hoe. The Iraqis are practically rolling out the red carpet for the UN weapons inspectors. So far, the UN hasn't found anything. We can't keep the troops poised forever. So how do you think Bush is going to pull it off? The optimal timing for an invasion is February. Will Bush find an excuse in time?

I'm supposing it'll be something that the administration will fail to disclose ( or elect to keep confidential...depending on the side of the fence.) and it won't be verifiable, like the inferred link between Al-Qaeda and Saddam.

I'm expecting some minuscule breach such as a purported failure to allow inspectors into a facility. There won't be an actual defiance per se, but maybe unclarity as to the protocol, similar to the complex that got shut down and it inconvenienced others that were in the entire complex and basically prohibited them from moving around, while the inspectors were searching.

That or some bogus story about a top scientist defecting and assuring there are weapons, but he/she was waiting to be assured of protection first.

Outside of these two scenarios, I'm at a loss.

Or perhaps under the guise of witholding the facts so Hussein's regime can't move or destroy the evidence prior to invasion, we will invade with real hope of discovering the WMD during this time. And, if no weapons are found, perchance fabrication of evidence would be in order?

Inconceivable! Isnt the liberal bias in the media an axiom? (Or is myth the word I was looking for?)

Regardless of what the administration is or isn't disclosing, I agree that the media coverage is ridiculous. Like you, ex-idaho, I find titles like "Showdown with Iraq" pretty cartoonish and insulting -- I know the networks have to attract a wide audience to stay in business, but the bias and one-dimensionality is just so blatant it's insane. Of course, the Bush administration isn't helping with names like "Operation Infinite Justice"

Basically, getting your news from television is just asking to be told what to think. Better to read a wide variety of sources (take your pick from http://www.onlinenewspapers.com/, for example).

Whether or not you like the possiblity of war, it's guaranteed to suck in viewiers like nobody's business. That's why they're really salivating. They're trying to capitalize on it now, and make the main event more inevitable.

Yep. Whether or not the media is conservative or liberal is really secondary to the fact that the media, above all else, is capitalistic. They'll do whatever it takes to sell newspapers and boost ratings.
