I was equally so ~ I attribute it to living in the south where it is predominantly southern baptist (aka fundies).

Also, they just built a sprawling, brick 'catholic diocese' admin building just near a frickin huge Baptist mega church complete with digital billboard near the interstate (bought with $$ gained after selling their old coastal property to the Beau Rivage Casino-hotel).

Oh, and the Pentacostals are creepin in too.

Welcome to Sci-fi.

What surprises me more is that you opened up the door..... may I assume you did since you identified them as catholics?
Just as a small break from catholic or baptist or mormon and evangelical recruiting methods, I must report a true anecdote about JWs coming to one of my patients' door.

Her daughter saw them coming into her driveway and recognized them from aprevious unproductive visit... " oh no... not again" I said " I will handle them". Right as I opened the door armed with my most civil attitudes, a truck pulled into the driveway. It read on the side " Grace Pest control". What a timing !

Are you saying that help is ultimately denied to those unwilling to convert?

Ronin... what makes you so sure it were Roman Catholics at your door, and not for instance Jehova's witnesses?

Are you sure that they were Catholic? I have never heard of it but will admid that it is not against any rules to do so.

I had mormons come to my door once while I had some friends over for lunch. It was so hot outside and they were these 2 18 year olds from another state and they were all dressed up in suits and their faces wre red from the sun and the heat. I just said "I am not going to convert but you are welcome to come in and have some lunch" so they came in, ate tons of food, drank a lot of water, and stayed in an air conditioned house and never talked about religion, they did miss their families though...nice kids...

Caro Ronin.... I do not purport to be tolerant or compassionate but intend to grow in that direction.
My best to you in your endeavors. I recommend dropping any supernatural pretense as a first step.

I suggest you present yourself as a model of compassion and tolerance towards the very people you so persistantly judge.
Thanks for showing everyone how you have completely avoided how *christ* could be a model at all, in favor of mischaracterizing my conviction to denounce and expose religious nonsense for what it is.

Your posts really do speak volumes.

Your statements may become more valid to them then. And your level of credibility with them might increase.......you can then pertain to truly enlight and influence them by your personal example.

We would not call it character if it were so easy !
Once again, Sabine...I live simply by my daily actions as a humanist who serves and protects lives precisely because there is no Sky Fairy to do so and I need no pulpit with which to win converts and steal money.

One time some JW's came to our door and while we were having a good discussion someone shot a hole in the backwindow of her car. We had heard the shot and surprised while concerned we called the police. She then asked me if I had any enemies. To this I responded, "don't forget lady, they shot your car."

I'm looking at the color pamphlet now ~ Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church...Jim Money and Pass Rd. Biloxi. Again, I will say it has been the exception not the rule. Lots of apologetics BS on it too...reminiscent of the Bapps.
