The Caholic Church
What are your impressions, good or bad, about the Catholic Church?

I am taking the "both" route. While there are negative aspects and terrible people within the church or any organization for that matter, there are positives as well. Gemma in another thread you mentioned 3 catholics as a lineage and I thought that was jolly good because St. Therese the little flower was always a favorite I think that due to recent events many are inclined to feel negative emotions towards the catholic church in general and many here have had bad experiences within the church. I have a friend who was physically abused by a nun so he has nothing positive to say based on his experience... BTW Gemma did I ever tell you I tried to be a nun once? I am not kidding I literally lasted 1 day at the Cabrini house before I was asked to leave. They felt I talked too much and I was told "it was not for me" Thats ok because ultimately they were right, I like men too much and that pesky vow would have been broken many times because I am weeeeeaaaaaaaak... I do admire those who give their lives to serve others within the church, however if they can't adhere to the vows they took before God then they should get into another line of work... |

I think the other posters will give you a list of bad things, so I will mention something I think is good.
The Catholic Mass, while it can be slow and boring for modern tastes, is nevertheless a work of art. There is interesting symbolism in a Catholic church and its Mass. Some other denominations of Christianity have, IMO, lost a lot by giving up this artistic aspect. |

I think that the Catholic church is the most evil organization that has ever existed.

I was raised Catholic. My grandmother stayed married to a womanizing adulterer (with several kids belonging to another woman), and they were both "good Catholics."
At my urging and insistence, my poor wife started the journey to becoming Catholic with several weeks of pre-Cana classes back in '86 (I think). Unfortunately, since my family didn't approve of my wife, for some strange reason the alcoholic Father suddenly decided we should wait to get married. That was actually ok with my wife, because at the time they were at the stage of the brain-washing where we sign away all our children to the Church. Kids in school knew where to get the good drugs; a good number of the Catholic boys were druggies. Also, a good number of the Catholic girls were exceedingly "easy" if a guy wanted to "go into her" (isn't that how the bible puts it?). So, I've seen my grandmother stay with a prick for fear of getting kicked out of the church; my mother was kicked out of the church because she made a bad choice in marrying my asshole father, and made the sin(!) of getting a divorce; the church refused to marry my wife and I due to family pressure; and besides all that, the Sister I grew up with in Catechism was a bitch. Good enough? |
