Default E.V. Hill Has died

Hello,

I was watching TBN the other night and Paul Crouch announced that EV Hill passed away.

Do any of you know anything about EV Hill or ever met him?

Never met the guy, know nothing of him. But here is what I learnt in an internet trawl:

E.V. Hill was pastor of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles. He lost his precious wife, Jane in 1992. Jane had been raised as the daughter of a prominent African-American pastor, Dr. Caruthers. At her funeral, he spoke about the ways this “classy” lady made him a better man.

At her funeral, E.V. Hill remembered his wife’s words [after his petrol station had gone bust] with great emotion. He said, “She could have said, ‘I’ve never been in this situation before. I was reared in the home of Dr. Caruthers, and we never had our lights cut off.’ She could have broken my spirit; she could have ruined me; she could have demoralized me. But instead she said, ‘Somehow or another we’ll get these lights on. But let’s eat tonight by candlelight.’”

Wives, you have the power to break his spirit; you
have the power to demoralize him. But the greatest gift you
can give your husband is to say, “I still believe in you.
Somehow or another we’ll get these lights on.”

OK, all credit to his wife. But it really begs the question, just why are wives given the ability by the wicked US government to "break their husband's spirit; to ruin them; to demoralize them"?

The US has the worlds highest divorce rate. And now the US pompously claims that it want's to "liberate the world". Who in their right mind wants US liberation, when it mainly seems to entail the right of women to "break their husband's spirit; to ruin them; to demoralize them" whenever they choose?

If EV Hill had preached against US government wickedness, rather than hobnobbed with presidents, then may be he would have been a better man.

Hmm, let me think about the divorces I have observed:

Mom and her first husband: Okay, I didn't see this one because it was years before I was born, but she left him because he beat her. This was during the 1950's, which I think means she had to show cause to get a legal divorce.

Sister 1 and her first husband: He left her for another woman.

Sister 2 and her first husband: He left her for another woman.

Friends A: She left him. Their parting was not amicable.

Friends B: She left him. Their parting was amicable, and they still live in the same house.

Sometimes the woman leaves. Sometimes the man leaves. Sometimes it's a mutual decision. Sometimes it's necessary for the safety of the departing spouse (and the children, if there are any). And, yes, sometimes it seems unnecessary and destructive. But I'm not going to say that divorce should not be allowed.

Are you saying women have too many rights in the country, in your opinion?

Please explain what you think the U.S. government is doing wrong, regarding women.

Okay Old Man, I think you have taken EV Hill's quote completely out of context and twisted it to say that the US government gave her the right to break her husband's spirit. That's not what EV Hill was saying at all.

He was saying that his wife could have discouraged him, she could have belittled him, she could have made him feel like a loser, but she didn't. She came alongside of him to lift him up and work through the problem.

And that is great. It is a shining example of a marriage working instead of falling apart.

Default BH, I'm surprised at you! ;)

BH, I can't believe you watch that show. As a Christian, I can just barely stand to watch it. Are you sure you are an atheist?

I sure don't care for TBN personally and cut it down everytime I get a chance. A lot of the ex-Christians here at II came out of denominations that showed a similar theological flavor to that seen on TBN. That's why I posted about E.V. Hill dying I can barely stand TBN myself, especially the Benny Hinn and Grant Jeffrey episodes.

Not meaning to speak ugly of the dead but E.V. Hill was cast as one of their best preachers of all time, but he did not hardly qoute the Bible when going before camera and "preaching."
