Evolution for Dummies and Christians
It's just common sense:
1. The scientific community would not accept evolution unless it were soundly proved. As a theory, evolution (Darwin) is on par with plate tectonics and the Big Bang. If origins of species were not understood, science would say so, just as it does concerning black hole singularities, time before the Big Bang, and life on other planets. Science is not scheming against Christians. 2. Evolution has no baring on the existence of God, because He could easily have created a universe complex enough to allow evolution to proceed by natural law. The presence and manifestation of God in the universe are not nullified by evolution. 3. Almost everything is evolving according to natural law: from the expanding universe, to the death of stars, to the changing chemistry of the Earth's atmosphere. Is life the only thing that doesn't evolve by natural law -- requiring the continual "tinker toying" of God? Evolution is a simple, elegant theory, supported by the vast majority of scientists, an extensive fossil record, genetics, geology, biology, microevolution (laboratory and natural), and of course, common sense. I'd say quite a bit more soundly than the big bang, but that's just nitpicky. Wish more theists thought like you, though. Welcome to the forums.

Just echoing the previous reply really. You are correct in comparing the attitudes to plate tectonics, evolution and the BB, but scientists would put the first two on a far more evidenced footing than the last.
That is not to say we think the big bang is wrong (and certainly not godidit!), for it does explain and predict much of what we know about the universe. But the general consensus is that there is more to it than the BB- just witness the attention given of inflationary BB, cyclic and bootstrap universes, superstrings, branes. |

When I first show the subject line before I opened the thread I thought I was going to have to chide some anti-Christian for an inflamatory subject line since I (falsely) thought I was about to read some attack calling Christians dummies. Some are, but some are not. (The same, of course, goes for atheists, Moslems, and most everything else.)
Nice post. :-) |

Nice site also. Of course I don't agree with your beliefs regarding God, but I do appreciate the honesty, and putting a statement of faith as the first thing on your website.
I hate sites that try their best to sound secular and/or academic until they get you hooked and then start throwing Bible verses at you. Good work |
