email from Senator Bayh
Can't remember what this is in response to. What say you?
The moral fiber part is fishy. The rest seems okay. Dear Mr. butswana(edit): Thank you for contacting me about the relationship between our Government and our religious beliefs. I appreciate your thoughts and concerns on this very important matter. The Founding Fathers of our nation were very wise to have included the First Amendment protection of religious freedom in the Constitution. They were men of faith, but, they also recognized and strongly believed that a majority should not be able to impose a particular belief system upon individuals. Like them, I believe that the United States Government should refrain from endorsing any particular religion, and instead remain neutral as people choose their faith. As we look at many recent tragedies, as well as at the more general picture of American life, we see more questions than answers. The moral fabric of our country has been slowly fraying, and each of us has a duty to help restore our nation's moral strength. While I still hold to my belief that schools and public institutions should not promote one belief system over another, I also think there needs to be room for individuals to practice their faith. The first amendment should not only prevent the development of a state-sponsored religion, but also protect everyone's ability to follow their own. Please be assured that I shall keep your views in mind as I review legislation that would affect the relationship between church and state. Again, thank you for contacting me. I appreciate your thoughts and hope you will continue to keep me informed of the issues that are important to you. Best wishes, Evan Bayh United States Senator |

Well... from the tone, your original letter was about gay marriage, peer-pressuring kids to affirm monotheism (er, the pledge), gun ownership or ten commandments monuments. Or perhaps all of them at the same time!
