Default 14-year-old lands article in science journal

And the journal is Creation Ex Nihilo Technical Journal. Here's the story from AiG:

14-year-old lands article in science journal

and the actual paper he wrote:

Genetics and Biblical demographic events

I read the article before finding out that the author is 14. Looked like regular creationist citing some existing results and then goes to make outlandish conclusions that have nothing to do with the data, but then again I'm not a scientist so someone else might have more to say about that. Pretty good for a 14-year old, but this proves one thing: you don't even need a high school education to whip up a paper that passes through TJ's non-existent "peer review". All it takes is to have a vague idea what you're talking about and to praise the lord.

Quote:
Sound interesting? Well, it is, and it joins a growing body of solid research that is helping to flesh out a Bible-based Creation model of origins science.

In spite of his young age, Chase’s article shows that he’s been reading the latest literature on genetics. Not only does he understand the evolutionary arguments, but he also displays a remarkable ability to evaluate the latest science from a creationist perspective.
It's kind of sad, really, to see such a smart kid being succumbed to creationism. I don't see a way out... a couple more years of positive reinforcement from AiG and he'll be hooked for life.

so... where's the information about the 14 year old who was published in a science journal?

Incidentally, having read his "article", I have to presume that the author in question either skimmed his sources, or has little reading comprehension. Particularly irt his comments about the "mitochondrial eve":

Quote:
Evidence for a Mitochondrial Eve2,3 suggests that the historical record in Genesis of one man and one woman at the beginning might be accurate, and this idea has already been discussed in the context of creation
I mean, really, that argument is demonstrative of a lack of comphrehension of the material.

For useful information on the subject, I suggest this site

Not too bad for a 14 year-old, but he really needs to work on that reading comprehension.

It pisses me off to see what seems to be a smart kid conned by the lies of these people.

Maybe if he doesnt go to a creationist high school and takes a good biology class, it will make him wise to some of the basic lies these people tell.

Watch him be used as a poster boy in an attempt to get other intelligent people, around his age, into the creationist movement.

How can that even be called a science journal? It's self named,I'm assuming.

I got a kick out the blurb for the journal he was published in:
Quote:
TJ has often been called the creationist world’s premier scientific publication. It is peer reviewed by highly qualified academics, mostly Ph.D. scientists. Because of mainstream censorship of their ideas, creationists need a forum where their models can be openly debated with honesty and integrity. Such careful scrutiny is essential to good science. The mainstream censorship makes it easy for critics to misrepresent creationist ideas, but there is a place where people can go to see the latest in the real debate
It's sooo much easier to defend your ideas in a group of like-minded people. I thought their whole premise of mainstream censorship was tossed out the window when it was shown that no creationist had attempted to get published in mainstream scientific literature.

I had a look through the article. Not badly written at all, especially for a 14 year old. I don't think too highly of the conclusions he drew or even of the breadth of the literature he perused. At least he didn't reference AiG...

I encountered him at the EvC forum some time ago, and he made a brief appearance on the Christianforums board a while back. Certainly bright, but as JayJay indicated, he has a tendency to make the usual creationist wild extrapolations/conlusions form data that in no way suppoprt his position.

The interesting thing is that Chase asked me to review this paper (or a previous incarnation of it) a few months ago. I pointed out his errors with coalescent theory, Linkage Disequilibrium, and that the tower of babel would predict star dispersal, which we don't see. Apparantly I wasn't convincing enough.

but he also displays a remarkable ability to evaluate the latest science from a creationist perspective.

So I guess that brain-washing indoctrination he received as a wee lad paid off, eh?

The good thing is that anyone with his apparent intelligence, if also in posession of a healthy dose of skepticism, has a good chance of breaking free from the "creationist perspective".

This event makes me want to write my own article for TJ, complete with made up references.

I wonder if it would be too much trouble for you to give some sort of summary of the biggest errors in the article? As a layman, I can read it alright but am not knowledgeable to tell for sure what's exactly wrong with it. In any case, it sounds promising that he at least asked for a second opinion. Maybe if he gets more interested in science than apologetics, there's some hope.
