So innocent people die because your god is really, really pissed off?
And this is justified...how? Because of Ricky, Lucy, and the Talking Snake? [ April 20, 2002: Message edited by: bonduca ]
|

Heck, for that matter, prove that there is free will. As I've proven elsewhere on this forum, omniscient god + omnipotent god = no free will. Jeff |

I presume by the reactions here that you are the leader of the pack? Forgive me then as I follow a higher authority. |

Booty,
Thank you for posting something tangible. Your view of us as disobedient "Houseguests" to the Almighty Host is interesting - but I think it fails on a number of counts. First, as Not Prince Hamlet mentioned, the houseguests were not told beforhand of the consequences of eating from the Host tree. They were just told not to do it. Second, a houseguests relationship with the host is usually fairly equitable. I think a better analogy is God as a Terrible Father. God sets his babies down in a playpen and says "OK kiddies, you can do whatever you want, but don't touch that big toy in the corner". Then he walks away. Eventually, the babies grow curious about the toy and want to play with it. They do so and when God comes back he says "I told you not to play with that. For your punishment, you will be thrown out of the house and tortured forever. Your children and their children will also suffer for your transgressions" "But, we didn't know?" "I told you not to do it and you disobeyed. Now countless millions will suffer for all eternity because you disobeyed me. All of your children will be disgusting in my sight and all will suffer" "That doesn't seem fair". "Shut up. I decide what's fair. I made you." "It there anything that will make you happy again?" "Well, in about 4,000 years I am going to send myself down in human form. When you see me, please kill me. It's the only way I can forgive you of your sin against me. Once you kill me, my blood will make everything better. I will be happy with you again". "Huh"? "Just shut up and do what I say. It makes sense to me. I'm the all-knowing one here." "OK then...." That, Booty, is the story of Salvation in a nutshell. And you wonder why we don't dedicate our lives to this tripe? Sheesh.... |

Supposedly his god did it once, and called it Paradise. But then he got pissed off. [ April 20, 2002: Message edited by: bonduca ]
|

"Would you have Up with no Down? Cold with no Hot? Empty with no Full?"
By the Great Star-Mother, Vondjina! It's Yoda! In answer to the implied question, paradise wihout hell, if I am an omnipotent, infintely merciful God the answer is YES, I would forgive and just exercise my divine power to make things right again. Although, if I was God and such things were real, I would create partners, equals, not slaves and worshippers. EDIT: "you are the leader of the pack?" VrooOOmm! VrrooOOOmm! no. she seems to be the designated intellectual trash compactor around here. [ April 20, 2002: Message edited by: Seeker196 ]
|
