Why would love frighten anyone?
Recognizing that I do not share a common language with those of you without faith, I am somewhat confused by many of the postings here.
Perhaps you would permit me to ask questions of those here. The first should you be willing, would be: "Why would love frighten anyone?" |

Seriously, the real test of love is actions, not words. The "love" of God, as chronicled in the Bible is an eerie thing. |

If He is loving, AND omnipotent...
Why do I feel pain? Why does my big toe hurt so farkin' bad? Why is there a Hell? Why am I stuck in a 90 degree apartment? Why does He hate you? |

Why do good things taste bad?
Why do bad things taste good? Why did my dog die? (and don't give me that... "it was his time" shit. Why do I have to die? Why are there wars fought in his honer? Why did he kill so many people in the Bible? Why did he kill himself? [ April 18, 2002: Message edited by: Indifference ]
|

Hi Booty,
Love is a strange word. We all think we know what it is, but we seldom agree with others. then putting God into the equation makes the word almost meaningless. For example, lets say I told you a story about a father who loved his children very much. But when they disobeyed him, he locked them in the basement and tortured them. The father didn't want to torture them, it was really the child's decision to be tortured since they disobeyed. Would you call that Father loving? I wouldn't. But many call God loving, and he does far worse that that father in the example... |

I guess you could say I do fear love. Let's assume...
I. God exists. II. God is love. III. The countless massacres of the Old Testament actually happened. I'm scared to death of love! [ April 18, 2002: Message edited by: Indifference ]
|

Where did you go booty??
I'm fairly new to this whole discussion forum thing, but i'm pretty sure it's rude to start a topic and then leave without rebutting at least one reply. or did you give up already? or did i convert you to atheism? |

I'm a cynic. It's helped me keep my ass in one piece, my money in my wallet, and my heart from being broken. I don't fear love. But I am sure as hell distrustful of someone who offers it.
Everyone has an angle they are trying to play. In general, the nicer, the kinder, and the more attractive they try to be, the more dangerous and ugly their true desires turn out to be. Cut out the 'special offer you can't refuse' bullshit. I made a living doing that for years. Tell me straight up what you want from me, and I'll be far more likely to consider it. |
