What if Christanity is True?
How's this for a scenario? :
What if you were to wake up tomorrow and discover that all of fundamentalist Christanity's claims are true? Scientist suddenly discover that the age of the earth is quite young, about 6,000 years old. Old Eyptian records are recovered, showing that the 10 plaques are historical fact. Plentiful fossil evidence is shown to support a worldwide flood circa 4500 years ago. Historical records are discovered verifing Jesus' existence beyond a resonable doubt, etc. It becomes abundantly clear that the bible was inspired (all the prophecies turned out to be true), and that YHWH is most likely real. What would that do to you? Would you become a believer? While I would most probably believe in YHWH's existence, I'm not to sure if I could worship him. If the bible were proven to be beyond a reasonable doubt to be the infallible word of YHWH, that would mean all the atrocities recorded are true. Could I truly worship such a being? It's not like I could pretend, since YHWH could "read hearts", and know that I'm pretty disgusted by him. He would at least have to come up with an extremely good reason (certainly one that I have not yet heard) to explain himself before I could consider the worship he request. |

I'm pretty much in agreement with you crownboy.
I'd have a hard time worshipping a bastard such as the one described in the OT. |

Hello Crownboy,
In response to your post, if evidence proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the bible was true and the fundamentalist christian God was real, I would probably worship him. Jesus doesn't sound all that bad. My main problem with religions is simply that they don't have much evidence supporting them and a lot of the beliefs are in outright contradiction to science. Worship of the Jealous One would not help me one bit. I'm not going to heaven, I've had sex with a woman.

I would in a heartbeat. So what if it's an asshole. I can let that minor inconvenience slide for eternal life...even if it is playing a harp.
well, back to reality.... |

It's nice to sound all righteously indignant and say, "Oh, I'd never worship that pigfucker," but, yeah, I'd probably punk out and join the cult. Pascal's wager, if you can actually narrow the feild down to belief in one religion and non-belief in that specific religion, has a certain power, especially when the one specific religion is the onlyone with evidence to back itself up.

Well, I would certainly believe it, but I would never worship God, even if he were loving, caring, concerned, etc., about my well being, and even if he never did any of the things in the old testament. Even if he prevented evils today as well I wouldn't. I have a very hard time seeing myself worship anything. Even when I used to pray and was a believer I always thought it odd to worship God. Rather, I sort of looked at praying as giving him his props (as the homies would say).
On the same note, if we're assuming fundamentalism is true, the idea of putting women second in the house and things such as that would probably still repulse me, even if it were proven women were inferior in some area (which would take place I imagine if everything in the Bible were true). Of course, I would be a brown noser and try to kiss the big man's butt, but considering he can see everything in my heart, he'd probably realize I'm not all that thrilled about worshipping him. I would just really hope hell wasn't as hot as they make it out to be. [ July 08, 2002: Message edited by: AtlanticCitySlave ]</p> |

I'd definitely have words with the OTHER SIDE.
If the c*nt is real, then so is it's nemesis, and I know where the party's at and the loose ladies and liquor are found. Each to their own and all that. You can keep your sodding harps and hosanna choruses. Meet me at the Crossroads, I'm buying. |
