Faith-Based Czar...
Jim Towey on c-Span.
http://www.c-span.org/videoarchives....Series&Code=WJ (scroll down to bottom. Might be on next page after today.) He kept talking about how discriminated against religious institutions are and then told us what a high-percentage of services they run. Also, he seemed to ignore the question about why churches need even more help than their tax-exempt status affords. And that a place in Frisco is a great place because , among other things, they wash their clients' feet. He also stated that religious groups could never get federal money if they have a religious sounding name. Doesn't Catholic Social services and the Lutheran church run large service groups that get tax money? And of course, "Faith-based groups" just plain do better. Why doesn't anyone ever demand to see proof of this outlandish claim? |

I like the way he diverted the question about wether this program could favor churches that run a certain political line or promote certain candidates. He said the money is given out in Washington so the churches don't know where its coming from basically. Like the candidates don't remeber where they were campaigning after they become president and appoint a director of the cabinet agency giving out the funding. He seemed to avoid a lot of the questions that were asked and act as though a not for profit charity and a religious group were the same thing but one doesn't get to play wit da others
I also kinda wondered how washing some homeless peoples feet makes up for all the medical assistance, housing and support cut during the Regan administration that was the only way a lot of mentally ill people could lead a somewhat normal life. |
