Post In the image of God

Since Man is created in the image of God, and since the best objective mechanism for determining similarily between humans and other animals is genetic, does this mean that chimps are 98%+ in the image of God?

Ha ha ha! Well I'll be a monkey's uncle!

I'll remember that for Douglas (if he ever returns).

Nah, I'm too white (Eve was middle eastern remember!)

I just visited the Met Museum of Art in NYC, and I had to laugh at all the renditions of Jesus. He was so white in many paintings! Jesus was a middle eastern Jew, not a Swede!

Heh, that reminds me of an old Cheech and Chong skit: Jesus trying to get into Mexico. It's hilarious.

Something like,
"You with the sandals, go back to california!"

If you are a Swede it is not really improper to paint Jesus as a Swede, same as If you are an African it is not wrong to paint him as being black. It just means that they are pianting him within the context of their culture, to show that he shares their humanity.

Yeah, kind of like how characters in Japanese cartoons look like Betty Boop.

That's a very common phenomenon, as a certain Xenophanes had pointed out ~2500 years ago:
Quote:
Frg. 10
Homer and Hesiod attributed to the gods everything
that among men is cause for reproach and blame:
thieving, adultery, deceiving one another.

Frg. 13
... but if cows had hands, or if horses or lions had, to use in drawing and doing the things men do, they would draw pictures of the gods and give them bodies just like the ones they had themselves: horses would draw them like horses, cows like cows.

Frg. 14
The Aithiopians say that their gods are snub-nosed and dark, the Thracians that theirs are blue-eyed and red-haired.

Xenophanes would have had a chuckle at all these portraryals of Jesus Christ as being in the likeness of the portrayer.
