wow! thanks for the link!
this is what i said in my email to him: ....Thank you for saying all that, and I wish that more people would think like you. I come from India, where violent clashes in the name of religion are increasingly commonplace. I realized early in life that religion is just a reason to get people to fight the battles of the powerful. I now live in the USA where I am horrified to see that religion is being used as open justification for some ridiculous public policy and unstated justification for some scary foreign policy. But as long as there are people like you, I guess there is hope. Thank you. |

I also sent him an email. It was a good article. It is nice to see newspaper pieces being critical of religion. It doesn't happen often enough.

HOW REFRESHING>>> Here is what I wrote to him.
Thanks for the link (((((((((A LOT)))))))))) If this isn't immediately delivered to Ed Weathers I would appreciate it if someone could forward it. That being said I found a link to this article on a secular discussion board I belong to. I would like to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to Ed. I feel very much the same as you do on this topic of religion. Thank you for putting it into print. I will be e-mailing this article to many people .. many who believe in some sort of religion or another. I find it sad in this day and age that we still hold fairy tales so close to many of our hearts! (not mine) I believe it is one of the driving forces of social economic stagnation in this country of ours. Think without the countless amounts of monies devoted redirected and misappropriated to religious organizations .. think of the REAL good that could be done with that money!! We could feed and house homeless improve teachers salaries.. lessen the burden on the average working American! Ok before I go off on a tangent which wouldn't be appropriate here ![]() Be Well *Bear* |

Got a pleasant reply this a.m. It was nice to know he received our support and appreciated it. I imagine he's got plenty of replies that are unpleasant. Glad to have the internet to show support. Memphis has to be a lonely place after speaking you mind like that.
(Not that Christians would persecute anyone, mind you, or that they would fail to turn the cheek or anything...) |

Great article! I won't email him just yet, since I'm at work, perhaps once I get home. It can't hurt to know that there are others who agree with an opinion that will not be popular with most who read it. Perhaps I could email him from my Yahoo! or Hotmail account, though.

i have been lurking here for over a year. i have found this site & the people here to be an amazing resource in my walk away from theism. for that, i thank you!
for the last year i have been a sponge here - reading & absorbing almost daily. someday i will post my testimony. for now, i wanted to post a reply to this thread. often, i have been tempted to join the fray & jump into a discussion. i found this article & thread to be one of the most compelling things i've read since i started my "quest". as such, i had to send Mr. Weathers a message & post his reply as my first post on II. in my message to him i thanked him for saying what he said and asked what sort of response he has received. here is his reply Quote:
i'm glad to hear that he has received so much support from readers. hopefully he has caused more of a splash than he knows. |

Oh, on the contrary! I also think it is probably more of a success than he knows.
Perhaps many of the 50 are people he might have thought were churchgoers, until they got the incentive to speak up because of his article. If he saw the 50 of us on the street, would he think we were churchgoers? Probably many of us. Now he knows we're not. Success. ![]() |
