Default Prophecy of Jesus

After reading a thread by LiberatedGoddess and her posts at apologetics.com, I posted a valid question of mine there. Here's the link.

I frankly do not understand why Matthew quotes Isaiah 7:14 as being the birth of Jesus, when it clearly refers to Isaiah's assurances of god's plan to the king Ahaz. I didn't get a satisfactory answer from the folks over there yet, not that I expect one.

Isaiah's prophecy to Ahaz failed miserably, as king Aram soundly kicked his ass (2 Chronicles 28:5-8). If I was still a Christian I certainly wouldn't be a proponent of biblical prophecy.

It's too easy to disprove.
