Of course, the first question that comes to mind is: Which scientists and what are their fields of research? Followed by: Based upon which data?

I've read similiar before and have always found them amusing.

I can just imagine Richard Dawkins' reaction to this. I mean, who knows what will happen in the future, and this scenario is rather ignoring memetics.

Makes sense.

Although, personally, I believe the echidnas will take over after we're driven to extinction (If they're not killed off first)

Actually, most scientists agree that Homo sapiens will be replaced by Homo superior.
