Introduction
Hello All,
Just introducing myself and looking for opinions, as well, on introductory texts in philosophy. I'm currently rereading my old college stuff by Capaldi (my prof - smart guy - loooong time ago, though, so I don't remember much). I was curious if anybody had read Coplestons "A History of Philosophy" and thought it worthwhile. The site is a terrific source, but I must admit much sails over my head. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks |

Hi,
I've read the entire Copleston series. It's quite good. The first few volumes are a bit of a pain if you don't know Greek or Latin because they are interspersed with untranslated citations. In later volumes, he's much better about providing translations. |

I haven't read Copleston's texts, but I found Philosophy: Theory And Practice by Jacques P. Thiroux to be an informative introductory text. |

A lot of works by Bryan Magee are fantastic as an introduction mostly to western philosophy.
-The Story of Philosophy -Confessions of a philospher. Then there is his seminal tv series "The Great Philosophers." Also try "The Problems of Philosophy" by Bertand Russell. |
