The most amusing thing I ever read about Scientology was Harlan Ellison's description of the day Hubbard decided to create a new religion to make money.

Hmm... interesting... I can't find the interview online. The site I bookmakred (in Sweeden) is no longer up. There are excerpts of the interview, but it's not reproduced in full anywhere! I managed to find <a href="http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/truth/religion.shtml" target="_blank">this article</a> which reproduces some of the interview with Ellison.

Amen, Goucho!

Hasn't Scientology been outlawed in Germany and maybe some other countries?

Red face

I could never do away with my body thetans. On those dark and lonely nights where I feel like ending it all, my thetans keep me company in ways Jesus never did ...

Now Xenu had a problem. All of the 76 planets he controlled were over-populated. Each planet had on average 178 billion people. He wanted to get rid of all the overpopulation so he had a plan.

Xenu took over complete control with the help of renegades to defeat the good people and the Loyal Officers. Then with the help of psychiatrists he called in billions of people for income tax inspections where they were instead given injections of alcohol and glycol mixed to paralyse them. Then they were put into space planes that looked exactly like DC8s (except they had rocket motors instead of propellers).

These DC8 space planes then flew to planet Earth where the paralysed people were stacked around the bases of volcanoes in their hundreds of billions. When they had finished stacking them around then H-bombs were lowered into the volcanoes. Xenu then detonated all the H-bombs at the same time and everyone was killed.
I never liked this story even from a literary point of view. It's just a contrived way to get people to earth and kill them so their souls will haunt the planet. If you want to kill people just fucking shoot them! Or gas them or whatever. Do it where they are, why bother to pack them all on rocket planes and send them to another planet. Corpse disposal? That's what the ovens are for. Jebus! doesn't this guy know anything?!? L. Ron's Xenu needs to learn a few things about how to do mass killing efficiently.

I used to work for a guy (very smart, PhD, worked at JPL before starting his own company, wrote and published a couple of textbooks) who was deep into Scientology/Dianetics. I went to his home once and his den was literally filled with hundreds of Scientology videos and books. Once a year he took a two-week "vacation" at the Clearwater facility where Lisa McPherson died.

Interestingly, he never talked about it or tried to proselytize, at least not to me.

And for a more direct link to the most rediculous of Hubbard's claims -

<a href="http://www.b-org.demon.nl/scn/upper-levels/ot8.html" target="_blank">http://www.b-org.demon.nl/scn/upper-levels/ot8.html</a>

Ah, so Hubbard is the anti-christ!! It's all starting to come together...But wait, how does Barbarino from "Welcome Back Kotter" fit into all this?

It's always been my policy to avoid religious ceremonies held on cruise ships.

That's either one of the most rediculous or disturbing photos I have ever seen.

Look at that sweater.

That is some serious stuff. Are they all that bad? I know I won't ever watch a movie with Travolta or Cruise in it. Thank "god" Harrison Ford isn't crazy. What about other actors like Mahlkovich and the like? Are they nuts too?

But what is weird, I read alot of that Lisa McPherson page and they kept on talking about one of the anti-scientologist guys, Bob Milton. But now, as of last week,
<a href="http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/state/orl-locscientology09070902jul09.story?coll=orl%2Dnews% 2Dheadlines" target="_blank">he has changed teams.</a>
The scientologists were able to find something deep about his financial dealings. They black mailed him. This is frightening!

How much of a grasp do these people want to have?

Well, for a well-known example, do a simple "Scientology" search on Google, and look at the far-right portion of your screen.

Scientology apparently donates a large amount of funds to this, the largest search engine, and hence probably has significant say as to the sites that Google searches can report.

In fact, if you search for some of the more controversial scientology topics, you'll find that Google has been prevented from returning many sites by the church itself.

Interesting, and disturbing, stuff.

And because of the autopsy photos, my conscious has prevented me from posting a tasteless "Grease" joke.
