Evolution disproved, again!
A news release here (Fourth item down, "Study shows plants inherit traits from more than gene sequence alone") will soon be showing up in the ID/Cre camp as "proof" of the falsity of pinko atheistic commie Darwinism. It appears to be a neat little piece of work, from Wash U in St Louis, on genetically identical Arabidopsis plants having greatly different phenotypes, because one group of them "thinks" it's under attack by pathogens. The difference appears to be due to different levels of DNA methylation.
Anyway, look for J Wells & Co to be trumpeting it around: DNA doesn't explain everything, so a) goddidit or b) it was intelligently designed or c)Darwin was wrong or d) all of the above. (I can't figure out how to link directly to the article - do one of you biologists out there have access to Genes and Development?) [ February 11, 2002: Message edited by: Coragyps ]
|

Well, I hope some of us will be hanging out to point out that suppressed genes are nothing new, and that regulatory genes can turn suppressed genes on and off, in response to environmental changes, like, for instance, pest attack.
Anyone who quotes the work you did, but draws the conclusion you fear they will, can't really be on the level, I think, they've got to know they're engaging in misrepresentation. |

Yeah, "engaging in misrepresentation" has been raised to a fine art in that camp. Grrr.
