Lord, Let Not This Cup Pass From Us
Well done to the Church of England for facing up to the real issues in our society today. Rev Jeremy Fletcher, Chaplain to the Bishop of Southwell, has come up with the following prayer, which is receiving wide publicity in the media ahead of our quarter final clash with Brazil.
Arise, O Lord, and let not Brazil prevail over us, Put them in fear O lord. Rise up, O Lord, lift up thy hand, Confound the might of Ronaldo and Rivaldo And put Ronaldinho to confusion. Oh God, if nothing else, award us a dubiously offside goal in the last minute, That the world may know that you are our God, And through you we will triumph over our adversaries, This time making it all the way to the final, Even if it is on a Sunday and no one will go to church. I’ve come over all religious. But now that Glenn Hoddle has gone, we have lost our hotline to God (or possibly vice versa - I was never sure if Glenn thought of himself as higher than God or not)
Surely you want Junihno to win, as an ex-Boro player! |

Well, it's approaching 4pm here which is knock off - er, kick off - time.
Good luck guys. I'd love to see another England-Germany final. PS Reminds me of something I read once. Just before the 1966 final, an English sporting journalist allegedly wrote: "We shouldn't be too upset if the Germans beat us at our own national game tomorrow. After all, we've beaten then twice at theirs." |

This just goes to show that gawd, in addition to having an Inordinate Fondness for Beetles is also inordinately interested in the outcome of sporting events.
