E/C World Demographics
I read somewhere (I think on IIDB) that YEC-ism is primarily an American thing. That is, most Christians in other parts of the world have accepted evolution and a non-literal interpretation of Genesis. Does anybody know if this is true and/or have any links to stuides/polls about this?

Well, the USA has a higher proportion of fundamentalist Christians than most other western countries, and creationistm goes hand in hand with fundamentalism. On the other hand, I gather creationism on the increase among fundamentalist Moslems in Turkey.

From what I understand, it is primarily an American thing, but Australia, followed by Great Britain, also have a fair amount of cretinists.

It's basically unheard of here on the west coast of OZ, except when my lecturers are bagging it, it's mainly an east coast thing if anything. I have never heard of any push to get any time whatsoever for creationism in the primary secondary or tertiary cirriculum. I don't think I actually know any Christians (ie family and friends), never mind fundamentalist creationists.
Apparently, there are more people of "no religion" than catholics in Australia according to the last census, although I got that info second hand so I'm not sure how accurate it is. |

Excuse me, but we australians are nowhere near britain when it comes to creationists. We just have more famous ones, like Ken Ham, who we don't even take responsibility for anymore, and socrates from theologyweb.

Once again, Americans are gullible to religion.
