I too have to post my objection to the "plotted disruption" of the baptist board.
Mainly - since you already posted here, with the topic name that you did, they will figure it out and ban you. So, don't waste your time - find something more constuctive to do, like, um, watch paint dry. Seriously though, I do agree with Rufus. When non-christians follow the tenets of WWJD better than the Christians, it sure looks good for the free-thinker cause. But. . . do what you want at the BB. You will miss this graemlin sorely: <img src="graemlins/banghead.gif" border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" /> scigirl |

"it sure looks good for the free-thinker cause."
No. Rephrase that to say "It makes the free-thinkers feel better about themselves." I learned the hard way that nobody notices when you're turning the other cheek unless you announce it (at which point people accuse you of only doing it for the attention, which you are). And since neither my religion nor yours REQUIRES such actions, the only purpose it serves it to make the person performing the action to feel all superior... while the people you're turning your cheek to continue to beat the crap out of it without ever noticing the irony involved. "Mainly - since you already posted here, with the topic name that you did, they will figure it out and ban you." Provided I'm not lying my ass off, and they ban some newbie (or five) looking for me and my conspirators.... And of COURSE I'd pretend to be a Christian! Like I said, I'm not going to TROLL, I'm going to instiage revolution and insurgence without anyone knowing I'm behind it all. |

Helen: "I'd rather be innocent than prove the people right who thought I was guilty."
Of course you would. That's a typical culturally-ingrained martyr mentality. It's better to be RIGHT than EFFECTIVE. It's better to be crucified for something you didn't do than it is to be crucified for something you DID do. The result is the same. The only difference is how much more moral and self-righteous you get to feel during the interim. If I'm going to be crucified, you'd better believe I'm gonna do something fun to deserve it. I'm only a masochist in bed. |

Plotting to disrupt other boards is not a legitimate use of the II. I can't control whether or not you disrupt the BaptistBoards, and don't desire to, but you won't be allowed to plot it here. This thread is being closed.

I was typing this up while Sakpo was closing the thread (an action with which I agree), but I think it needs saying, so I'm posting it anyway.
Discussion board administrators have every right to determine and enforce whatever registration requirements they wish. Here at the II, we have decided to make our board one where theists and non-theists can pursue discussions on many different topics. We welcome challenges to our worldview and respond vigorously when they are made. We also ban disruptive individuals, although certainly not due to a bias in the content of their posts. The BB has taken a different path. The purpose of their board is no longer to facilitate discussons between believers and non-believers. They are not interested in pursuing the Great Commission within the boundaries of the board. Rather, they seem to want to concentrate on fostering a community for Baptists. While I don't necessarily agree that their actions truly support what should be their primary activity, they have every right to organize and administrate their community in the manner in which they see fit and we (as a liberal and tolerant community) should respect that. In my humble opinion, registering at any discussion board under false pretences with the intention of disrupting the conversations (however mistaken or inane we might believe them to be) is simply unethical. I can't condone it personally, I don't think that the SecWeb (as an organization) should condone it corporately, and I certainly don't think that it does the forum members much credit to have our apparent disregard for the rights and feelings of others to be openly flaunted on our discussion board. I'm sorry if this seems overly harsh, and I really don't mean to single out any individuals. However, this issue really concerns me. Like many of you, I am firmly convinced that fundamentalist Christianity is utterly false and emotionally damaging. Also like many of you, I believe that Humanism represents the only real alternative for the future of mankind. However, I don't believe that our goal is served by harrying Baptists on what they have designated as their private turf. That will serve only to reinforce their false stereotypes of atheists and create more "martyrs" for the cause. Thanks for listening. Bill Snedden |
