Biblical Prophesy
Is anyone aware of any biblical prophesy that has been used to predict an an actual extra-biblical event before it happened. I'm unaware of any such occurence. Sure, after the fact, events can be twisted and contorted to sort of fit into the vague and symbolic language in the Bible. But has anyone ever used the Bible to predict an actual event before it's happened?
The reason I ask is that sometimes I listen to Christian radio just to see what they're saying. There are a lot of prophesy shows out there and most of them claim to know what's going to happen. They say some pretty whacked out things. One claimed that he and the other believers were going to go up to the sky, have a dinner with Jesus in the sky, and then be whisked off to the Middle East to fight the Anti-Christ at Armageddon. I obviously think this is ridiculous, but clearly a lot of Christians buy it. Is there any single case of a correctly interpreted biblical prediction BEFORE THE EVENT HAPPENED that would give Christians a reason to trust some of these far-fetched predictions? |

"What about the prophecy of the scattered people of Israel being brought back to Israel?" That is what would be called a self fulfilling prophecy. Jews longed to live in the place that their cherished book told them was their home so many Jews worked hard to fulfill this dream. This is not like a prophecy which predicts the time and place of a flood or an unpredictable event. None the less you are technically correct although I suspect that most of the predictions that you refer to are about the Babylonian exile and not the later Roman exile. Baidarka |
