Madonna
You know, Madonna really is a great inspiration to the world. She creates great music. She lives the wealthy life to the fullest, while at the same time realizing that there are better things than wealth. She's spiritual and theistic without tying herself to a particular religion. She is loved by millions. What do you think?

I think Madonna's music basically sucks, with the exception of a few songs. I think a lot of her fame rests on the hype surrounding her raunchy exploits. (Not that there's anything wrong with raunchy exploits. It's just not a good substitute for musical talent.)
I admired her willingness to parody herself on Wayne's World, though. That was funny. |

I kinda liked the morbidly obese drag-queen that played her in the video for The Androids' I'd Rather Do It With Madonna

I have to agree with the OP most.
Madonna's music is trend setting, and defining of pop music. If she is not the crest of the wave, she is pretty close. Now, I don't own a single CD of hers, but you have to admit that her staying power, and her consistent successful reinvention of herself is neither luck, nor the work of a puppet master behind the scenes. She worked her ass off to get where she is and pushed a lot of envelopes on the way. Whether or not you appreciate her music personally, you have to give her credit. It'd be hard to point to a more successful pop music career. And even the examples of that you could find would all be mega stars. |

I spent many many years attempting to build up a healthy hatred of Madonna but I now I know I can't. Her songs are catchy and the way she constantly re-invents herself is really amazing. And she's absolutely the queen of music videos. Music videos really owe a lot to Madonna's willingness to try new things.
She built herself up from almost nothing working her ass off and now she's almost a force of nature unto herself. Is she a great singer? No. Is she an innovative songwriter? Not really. But she's a helluva performer and I admire how hard she works. |

damn, couldn't find that Photoshopped "I'd hit it" bush picture.
The sentiment applies, though. |

I have always admired Madonna a lot more than I've admired her music.
I think Dangin and Dark Jedi have more or less covered it. However, I'd like to add that she looked a lot better in her thirties than she did in her twenties. |

Personally, I've never really been a fan. Actually I don't like much music. I would much rather read or listen to news or talk radio.
