How many more people have to die before we realise that religion is the greatest killer of innocent people ever?

It will never be declared illegal in the U.S. because we have freedom of religion. I ask the same type of question: when people will wake up and see that organized religion has many detrimental effects on the world? Organized religion has caused the senseless deaths of millions and has caused (and continues to cause) pain and misery to people all over the world.

The Romans outlawed Christianity, and look where it got them.

How about making death threats illegal or making death threats illegal which are aimed at whoever we don't want to die?

Who is gonna pay for the war or law enforcement?

but what about all those dead hindu's? What could have possibly set the Muslim's off? just an inborn hatred of a different religion? The article mentioned that the attack happened in a city where Hindu and Muslim lived close by each other.

What is we just declare the Church of Beachbum as the only church and everyone has to attend there. Once in you can do what ever the hell you want to but you have to all be bumians or bumolics

I'll reply to sidewinder's question as it's at least more sensible than the topic question...You also ignore that religion has also caused a lot of good in this world - if you say that this good would have been done anyways, you would be inconsistent as you seem to refuse to say this about the evil done - Politics has also 'caused' a lot of death. So does money, or a form of. So has democracy. Should we get rid of those things as well?

Virgio,

Would appreciate if you would be a bit specific about "good" caused by religion.

Sure. Religions have a long history of setting up places of refuge for the poor - for the caring and feeding of those who are not able to care for themselves. While different sections of these same religions may have also *abused* their power, the good these other portions were doing was there nonetheless. This would be mainly what I'm talking about....There are more examples, but it takes a closer study of history to see them...What we're taught as history, imo, is really like the pulp fiction of literature. It deals with the wars and the deaths. It will mostly ignore the (relatively) small contributions and movements that are consistent. For instance, in Canada, when social darwinism was a present and active ideology, there was a counter-culture movement in Christianity (called "compassionate Christianity" or some such thing, I forget to be honest) that opposed these ideas - and these ideas were contributing to a lot of pain and misery. Painting religion in a whitewash fashion is certainly easier, but all you get is a white wall - not a more accurate, subtly-painted portrait.

Do you not think that guilt is part of "good works" and that the poor only exist because the rich are winners and the poor are losers? How else can there be so many poor in rich America?
