Quite. In fact, if you look at the whole insect kingdom (its not technically a kingdom, but it might deserve to be called an empire), one can find a huge spectrum of different versions on metamorphosis, from simple 'growing up' like in hemimetabolous insects, through some fairly large scale 'adolescence' style metamorphoses, breif, small scale crysalis style metamorphoses, to the full scale complete alterations of holometabolous insects like butterflys and beetles. Spectrums are very useful for explaining this kind of thing.

Last time I checked, insects were a Class within the Phylum Arthropoda. But perhaps you were referring to the vast diversity of insect types.
