Default Airliner hijacked

Ok, so no confirmation as to why this plane was hijacked. I am wondering, will the Iraqi people put 2 and 2 together as quickly as i did and decide that hi-jacking a commercial plane, flying it towards Bagdad (and american troops) would create quite a quandry for our military.

I mean...shoot down a passenger plane or let it become a guided missile heading towards your troups?

Oh what a mess we have started!

I think the coalition forces would not hesitate to shoot down a plane if they knew it was going to crash into a coalition position. Looking at the cold, hard facts, it's not like the passengers are going to survive such a suicide crash anyway.

An ugly situation, and a no-win situation, for the coalition (read: U.S.)

I think it was a shuttle flight from Istanbul to Ankara (or vice versa). It's landed at Athens.

Sky News are reporting something about the lone hijacker wanting to fly to Germany.

Or perhaps engage in non-lethal attacks on it. Example: Using a fighter's afterburners to damage it's windshield. The plane could still be talked down to a landing but the hijackers would have a hard time picking a target to hit.

I don't know if this has been confirmed, but I'm watching Sky News at the moment and I thought I heard a few minutes ago one of the news anchors that there were Turkish government officials on the flight. At least that's what I thought they said.

Rumours are that it's been refuelled in Athens at the moment. Sky News have repeated claims that senior Turkish government officials including an ex-government minister might be onboard.

Forgive my ignorance, who would be targeting the Turks?
