Default What's with christians being so paranoid and defensive?

I was just looking around at AIG :banghead:, not all christians are like this I know, I thought generalizing more would probably make more people come into the thread , but they make everything look like everybody's out to get them, especially science. Wtf? What makes them so inherently paranoid? Some things on there don't really have anything to do with evolution or whatever, and they'll still make them look like they want to kill christianity or something. God forbid somebody thinks about something. Well that was my mini-rant, what makes them like that?

(Edit: I just realized that I said chrisitanity)

Deep down they know it's all a load of bullshit, but if they admitted it then they wouldn't know what to do with themselves or what to think, so they have to hold on soo soooo tight. It's like a little kid with a security blanket. Of course they'll be fine without it, but they hold on and scream if you try to take it away.

I believe the bible explicitly tells them that if they are good christians then they can expect to be persecuted for it.

It's kind of a self-fulfilling prophesy for many. They look for persecution behind every door and under every rug as confirmation that they are good Christians.

Seems like a rotten way to live, IMO, but I am also irritated by it. You can't even have a discussion with some people without them pulling out the old, "Well Jesus told me to expect you to persecute me". It's very irritating. Like having a discussion is persecution somehow. Well, if you want it to be, I suppose.

What it was that really pissed me off (more than the rest anyway) was their definition of the ACLU.

Quote:
American Civil Liberties Union—an organization at the forefront of attempts to remove all vestiges of Christianity from public life in the United States.
What the hell? Maybe one of our civil liberties might just be to not be christian? Just maybe?

They tend to be quite protective of their God, as if God cannot take care of the people's sin by himself. I mean, if God works harder (a few miracles will suffice, like splitting the Pacific apart, perhaps?), then the Christians can be damn sure that this nation will not run away from Him, can't they?

Why not? The Israelites ran away from him as soon as Moses stepped out for a smoke. They saw all kinds of miracles, and even the glory cloud which they knew to be God.

Miracles do not stop rebelllion or build character. Even a skeptic should know that adversity alone can build character. Not to mention that several skeptics have already admitted that manifestations wouldn't make Christians out of them.

Guess you never gave much thought to it.

Christians believe that persecution is someone disagreeing with them. I had a fundy tell me I was persecuting him because I was questioning his beliefs. That in spite of the fact that it was he who asked if I'd accepted Jesus into my life. My initial response after his question was, "Oh hell no. Why would I want to do that?"

Prove Moses existed. Then prove the Exodus took place. Then prove that the Israelites behaved as you describe.

For one thing, Satan is out to get them. Or, at the very least one of his demons. Creation fell with Adam so they see verything as fallen to some degree. The world appears to be a very different thing to them than it is to us. They also have some very magical beliefs although you'd never get one to see it that way. Since
evil is personified it can move about, hitching rides so to speak on people [Gays], ideas [evolution], acts [premarital sex]. There is no end of ways that evil can get at you. It only takes a moment of laxity to set the stage for evil to triumph in your life. Who knows, you could end up sodomizing a paleontologist.

Until the server and the served realize the tools that teach segregation of sentient beings is abolished we can not be civilized.
