Why I am fine, thank you for asking.
So if I walk upīto you and simply say, "I love you" without mentioning God, Jesus, Santa or the Easter Bunny; you start to foam at the mouth and make derisive remarks about God, Jesus, Santa and the Easter Bunny as well as make fun of my name. (Some of the humor was quite amusing, and some rather pathetic) And yet some of you say love does not frighten you. Hmmm Maintaining awareness of the difference in languages, please allow me to proceed to my second question. "Why would you fear a free gift?" |

If, you, Booty, or any strange man walked up to me and declared that he loved me, whether mentioning Jesus or not, I would consider it inappropriate and alarming.
"Free gift?" If it is not free, how can it be a gift? Nevertheless, I do not accept gifts from strangers, I am not that kind of gal. I especially dislike the implication that if I refuse this "free" gift, I will be made to suffer for it. [ April 20, 2002: Message edited by: bonduca ]
|

'Free gift' is redundant. It is either a gift, or it ain't.
The only thing I have ever heard described in this redundant way is a fictional character in the bible's so-called 'sacrifice', which was neither free nor a gift by any reasonable definition. |

The Flower Children of the sixties would have been very upsetting to you. I would stay clear of Woodstock remakes.
Who said you would be "made" to suffer? Is assumption and presumption the modus operandi of this board? |

The sixties were a long time ago, and not my era. Whatever era you hail from, you would be wise to eschew unsolicited statements of affection, if you are unknown to me. I value my personal space and have a mean right hook.
Are you saying you do not believe in hell? That is not assumption and presumption, it is commonly taught by many Christian sects that those who do not accept Jesus as their savior will perish in hell. [ April 20, 2002: Message edited by: bonduca ]
|

"Is assumption and presumption the modus operandi of this board?"
Nope, in cases like these the MO is reading and interpretation of the bible, + the non-biblical Xian nonsense that has sprung up around it. The 60s movement was about tolerance and freethinking (well, when it wasn't just about partying). Tolerance and freethinking are opposed to everything Christianity stands for. Why do you think we fear anything? |

Because we refuse this "gift," we must obviously fear it.
