Uh, I thought Lenin and Stalin were totalitarian Communists dedicated to promoting state-sponsored Communism and squashing ALL competing belief systems, not just religions. I guess not many non-Communist atheists got repressed by their regimes.

Layman, try "It is in SECULAR nations such as Western Europe and the United States where freedom of expression and religion have prospered the most."

Secularists don't write blue laws, burn rock albums and Harry Potter books (or even Bibles for that matter ), or persecute the religious (tax-free churches anyone?).
