Ah, the movie that inspired me to go out and purchase my first pair of parachute pants. Such terrible and frightening memories. The horror . . . the horror.

It makes sense that the "movie that had to happen" should have a DVD release "that had to happen". I for one will be lined up outside my local Circuit City the night before so I can get my copy before they are sold out.

Oddly enough, Amazon.com keeps reccomending that to me as something I ought to be interested in...jeez, you buy one video they think has to do with hip hop or something....and bam. They also seem to think I'd really love Diana Krall if I just gave her a chance.

I hope to be safe. I'll be attending an Annie Lennox concert on that day. Perhaps her singing will generate a protective force field that will shield me from the dreadful rhthyms of doom.

You probably would. She's great. IMHO that is.

Similar thing happened to me. I searched Amazon.com for a book on dog grooming as my wife wanted to try this at home. Sometime later in the day, I clicked on a link sent to me by my friend as a joke....brought me to some gay erotica involving the US Navy.

For the next few days I kept getting recommendations alternating between dog grooming and gay erotica. Spent quite some time searching other types of books simply to stop the recommendations.

True, she is great, but I think the juxtaposition of Dianna Krall and Electric Boogaloo as recommendations is somewhat amusing. Methinks they are just hedgeing their bets (or are being paid to push stuff on us - surely not )

Sorry, but I've heard enough of Diana Krall to know she didn't make it big because of any outstanding musical talent. She's a competent pianist and can sing well, but she isn't anything special. Maybe people who aren't very familiar with jazz can't be expected to notice how bland and derivative her music is. I'm not saying she's bad or anything, but really, the world is filled with musicians of Diana Krall's level....Diana Krall just happens to be blond and physically attractive, and her speciality (which is not original, which she does not do in an especially impressive way, and which she overuses) is singing in that sexy/husky voice, so she's easily marketable.

Speaking as someone who is not very familiar with jazz, I'll have to echo Sakpo's opinion of Diana Krall. I picked up one of her albums in the interest of becoming more famliar with jazz. Listened to it one and a half times, haven't played it since.

But, as for my Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday CDs....
