Angry out on a limb and pissed off as usual

I hear they arrested serial bomber Eric Robert Rudolph. Haven't read up on his personal views, but what odds would you like to lay that he turns out to be some form of christian extremist?
How come those christians are like teflon, and no matter how many evil acts they perpetrate, they are still considered (sort of a priori) Good?

From CNN.com:
Quote:
Rudolph and his family were connected with the Christian Identity movement, a militant, racist and anti-Semitic organization that believes whites are God's chosen people.

Rudolph's mother, Patricia, spent time with Nord Davis, a Christian Identity ideologue who built a walled compound called Northpoint in the Nantahala community. Davis wrote propaganda decrying a "New World Order" that he claimed was controlled by Jews, and he advocated killing gays and those who engaged in mixed-race relationships.

Davis reportedly contacted the Church of Israel, a Christian Identity congregation in Missouri that espouses the belief that only white people descended from the biblical Adam and Eve, on Rudolph's mother's behalf. Patricia Rudolph brought 18-year-old Eric and an older brother to the Church of Israel compound in 1984. They returned to North Carolina after less than a year.

Just curious—how many serial bombers/killers are there that have NOT been religious? Does anyone have any links to any information on this? I honestly cannot think of any serial killer who was not religious.

Haha, that is one of the stupidest beliefs ever! How can somebody fall for that? Oh well, there are fucked up people that will do shit like this without religion, but religion certainly doesn't help things...

Default hmmm

That would go for most mass murderers as well. Jim Jones, 9/11...
A possible exception who comes to mind would be the Unabomber. I don't remember his religious orientation but his motive was (ostensibly) more anti-technology than religious intolerance.

One of my favorite religious murderers is John Emil List, a devout mainstream protestant...possibly Presbyterian...who killed his entire family: wife, kids and mother, and believed that (1) it would save his children from going to hell (2) if he confessed he would be forgiven. He was found here in Denver years later, still a faithful member of his local church.

It sounds like List had a firmer grasp of his religious principles than many seem to have. There are many people who have claimed that they believe that children will go to heaven if they die, but their behavior indicates that they believe no such thing.

Add Andrea Yates to the list of parents who murder their kids before they can go to hell.

Ted Bundy, law student and serial killer, was employed by the Republican Party.

Tim McVeigh was a Republican.

The guy who killed two people in a Massachusetts abortion clinic was a radical catholic.

I have seen anti-abortionists in a civil trial and they are scary as hell. Extremely traumatizing to me as I was working there.

They tend to be conservative Germans or WASP fundies or Catholics.

Wink

Lest we forget, folks ... none of these people you're mentioning were True Scots--er, I mean True Christians©, but instead pagans or atheists who were only using Christianity to sin against God.

In defence of the Church I would say that such radical Catholics are not true Catholics even by Vatican II standards. They are probably "born again" according to the protestant method and are now also on fire for Jesus like the rest them.
