Question about the magnetic field strengths of stars.
This is for anyone who knows alot about stars. This is kind of a fill-in-the-blank deal. I've had difficulty finding the strengths of the magnetic fields of stars other than the Sun (25 gauss, I think it was) and pulsars (a trillion or more gauss). So could someone give these field strengths (a number range or average strength; whatever you prefer) for me?
MAIN SEQUENCE O/B: A: F: G: 25 gauss? K: M: DWARF STARS Red dwarf: White dwarf: Brown dwarf: GIANTS/SUPERGIANTS O/B: A: F: G: K: M: Hypergiants (Pistol Star, etc.): Thanks. |

A browse around from this site should enable you to answer some of your own questions...
http://webast.ast.obs-mip.fr/people/donati/field.html I found quite a few numbers from a google search on... magnetic field stellar gauss "main sequence" Many astronomy journals are on line at the ADS - web search for "ADS" will find it. |
