agnosticism
This subject may be worn out, in fact I see another thread with 162 replies already on it... but hopefully I will get a couple of you all to drop in on me.
Many times when I tell people that I am agnostic (and this is rarely, as at 18 this type of discussion does not frequently come up) they either ask me what that means or ask me why only to later show they don't really understand what it means. So let me clarify - I am agnostic for the following reasons: (1) I don't think that God (NOT the christian/bible version, but rather the abstract, more mystical one) can either be proven to exist or disproven logically. (2) That God exists can also not be a scientific study and there would be no way to disprove that God exists through evidence (3) I have before felt that some supernatural force of some sorts must exist, and have also at times felt that one does not. (4) And lastly, I firmly believe that belief in God (once again, NOT the fundamentalist religious belief) is either a by product of other beliefs or only affects peoples actions through other beliefs, and basically that person would be the same without said belief. |

I used to be agnostic for similar reasons to you. I just consider myself an agnostic atheist now (Mainly atheist) - I don't think you can disprove the idea of God, but I also don't think there is enough reason to invest faith in it.
Hence, I choose to disbelieve in the existance of a God until I feel there is sufficient reason to change. (Just like I choose to disbelieve in elves, pixies, leprechauns... etc. Though in many cases arguments for God's existance could be used for theirs too) |

Similarly, theists, not to mention deists, pantheists, paranormalists, etc. have failed for all human history to provide any rational proof for their claims of invisible immaterial persons, conscious free-floating minds, poweres, energies, etc. Therefore, I disbelieve in their claims, and am therefore an atheist and convinced skeptic. (And if their claims are by definition beyond proof, then so much the worst for them.) |
