Default Out of Context

On the BBC Christian boards I use scripture, principally the Book of Matthew to reveal the UnChristian doctrine of Catholicism. The posters there, of course, attempt to counter my scripture.

One of their favorite assertions is that I have taken the verse out of context. They throw this up without thinking, like a reflex, it is just their standard front line defense, they are used to the person not then providing proof of context.

When I provide proof of context the replies dry up. Because the context is obvious once scripture is detailed and presented. Question is, how is this context not obvious to their denomination?

When Matthew says call no man on earth rabbi, no man on earth father, for one is your father, he who is in heaven, Catholics claim Christ meant biological fathers. Why in the world would Christ not want you to call your earthly father, father??????????????? Indoctrination suspends reason, without doubt. When i point out the context is clerical, they then take biological context, honor thy father and mother, and try to use this as proof the context is biological! Can any person really be this stupid? These people generally express themselves with articulation on the boards.

Indoctrination suspends reason, without doubt, whether it be theistic or political, because I get the same reaction when presenting arguments from Noam Chomsky, Michael Parenti, and Howard Zinn. Posters displaying message board excellence on every other free thinking topic, suddenly start boarding windows against the Infidel! You can hear a great big WHHOOOOOOSSSSSSHHHHH! That'd be the toilet flushing.

The Black intellectual, Cornell West, wrote a beautiful book, Race Matters, but during the OJ trial, he was painted into a fretful corner. He did not know what to say concerning OJ's guilt because he knew the man to be guilty, so when asked any question, he would say bizarre things like--"Has anybody stopped to think about OJ's mother?" Is he kidding??? WHOOOOOSSSSHHHHH. West had been indoctrinated into a philosophy where Black celebrity was it's own virtue. The cost of OJ's guilt outweighed the value of truth. West's heart was shackled on the matter.

So, none of us, atheist or theist, are above the malady of blinkered indoctrination. One place or another, each of us has a little door we keep locked in a deeply prejudicial context. Visitors are not welcome.
