Cool Well.... could be the wave of the future... ;)

They've got a ways to go before this is useable... but still... potentially verruh cool...

Why don't we just drink the "nutrient rich liquid"? If they could make it taste like beer they might be on to a winner.

Cool

Mmmmmm.... liquified veal.....

Seriously.... that's like asking why we do hydroponics instead of drinking the nutrient solution directly.

Seriously, yeah. I'd much rather eat a good synthetic filet mignon than guzzle 3 gallons of 'nutrient-rich solution'. Blech. Ptooie.

Cool

I suppose the other thing to ask here is whether or not this can work with non-muscle tissue?

Sure, we can grow food meat this way.... but if we did it with human cells could this be a way to grow transplant organs? It's a thought.....

You know, this quote from the CNN article:

Quote:
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration must approve the mutant meat before people can legally consume it, according to NewScientist.com, which first reported on it on Wednesday.
is just an example of the lack of science knowledge in the media, and it just adds to the misunderstanding of science by the public in general. The meat is not mutant, since nothing has been altered genetically. It's just tissue that is grown in a dish. It's the same type of misunderstanding that occurred a few years ago when tissue engineers were able to get an ear-like appendage to grow on the back of a mouse using an artificial scaffold, and some of the media called it a mouse "genetically engineered to grow human ears" on its back, or something to that effect.
