Default Help w/ My Paper on Church-State Separation

For my Religions in America class, we have to do a research paper, due at the end of the semester, on anything having to do with, religion in America. Simple enough. Anyway we had to submit a question and topic to our professor last week, here's what I have submitted:

"What efforts have been made to preserve the secular American government created by the First Amendment? My paper will explore the violations that the religious right has made against separation of church and state and what is being done to preserve the religious rights of secular Americans."

I wrote this up in about the 30 seconds before it was due, so I might change my focus a bit or make it more specific.

Anyway, if anyone knows of any resources off the top of your head that would be helpful, I would really appreciate it, or if you can think of any necessary topics I should include. We need at least 10 sources, that can be books, journals, articles, internet, whatever.

I've got plenty of time, but would really appreciate your input!!

Thanks, Megusic

Cool

Megusic,

Here is one website which might provide a starting place for you:

The Constitutional Principle: Separation of Church and State

Good luck with your paper!!

Respectfully,

You should also have a look through findlaw's annotated First Amendment pages. Here is a useful historical discussion of the religion clauses:

First Amendment: Religion

The caselaw is in the hyperlinked footnotes at the bottom of the page. Load your paper up with legal citations and you're guaranteed an 'A.'

The ACLU would be a good source for current and past court cases and lawsuits

I'm in full agreement with you, m'lady. Where the hell do people like that come from??

Scary, scary... I'm really worried about the future of our country with (to use Fiach's words) Mullah George Wahid Bush and the Religious Reich gaining more control.
