When I here Christians go on about how the Good book is the only truth, and how the stories included between the nice leather cover are the truth, as told by or instigate by God, I have to give them a test.

Try this test. Tell a story to one person, have that person tell it to another, do this through twenty people. When the last person has heard the story have that person tell it to the originol person. In almost all cases the story you get back is not the one you told.

Now lets look at this from the same point of view. As a good portion of the good book happened around people, who for the most part could not read or right, can you really believe that the good book is written as it actually happened, especially considering there was not instant replay to get all the fine details and quotes down correctly?

Now lets take the next step in the history of the good book. There are a number of different versions. Why you may ask? Well Constantine didn't like the way it was written, so He had it changed. King James didn't like it either so He had it changed too, and on and on and on.

So before a christian decides to get on their High horse with You, have them answer the afore mentioned thoughts. They usually just go away.

The good christian will say that god guided every change ever made to it over all that time, for reasons beyond us. Although it sounds like a good example to use on a less fundamental christian.

Wouldn't this argument be admitting that God isn't perfect? If he is infallible then he would have gotten the book right the first time wouldn't he?

Good thing you're an atheist, because If you were a Christian that had come to this forum with that type of grammar and spelling, you would be laughed to scorn.
But hey, my grammar and spelling aren't perfect either so I don't have a problem with you. I'm just pointing out the inconsistency.
That aside, Are you familiar with how Bible versions are translated? You don't seem to be.
In english translations, for example, they aren't translated from other English translations but rather are translated from groups of Greek and Hebrew texts. Among these texts there are variances and many Bible translations such as the NIV and NASB give alternate readings in the margins. However, these Greek and Hebrew texts only vary by a few percent.
Also Hebrew scribes were extremely rigorous in their copying and had very stringent safegaurds established in their protocol. The discovery of the dead sea scrolls has revealed that the the Hebrew texts have been preserved very accurately over time.
