Answerer,
I'm one of the newer RC members of this forum but I think I can at least place this stuff for you: 1)Fatima and Lourdes are two of the VERY biggest of Marian apparitions/shrines in Catholicism. 2)(most)Protestantism is indifferent-to-hostile towards Mary-veneration (they call it "worship"). 3)TECHNICALLY no Roman Catholic is obligated to believe in ANY Marian apparition: it is NOT a part of the core of the Faith/Tradition. 4)Still Marian devotion is VERY popular among traditional Catholics in all countries and SOMETIMES this devotional motif has helped in making converts (Our Lady of Guadalupe is frequently credited with helping to convert many in Latin America). 5)The 66(?) official miracles at Lourdes are the ones of the heavily-documented, otherwise-hopeless , this-is-more-than-psychosomatic type cases. 6)Still, despite 5), there are relatively few who can claim even a NEAR-miraculous recovery from illnesses by visiting such a shrine (which have at LEAST hundreds of thousands of visitors every year). 7)The 66 cases stretch back to the 1850s when the Lourdes apparition occurred (ie 144 or so years ago). 8)Bernadette herself suffered from bad health and died fairly young as a nun/sister (Bernadette was the visionary of Lourdes). Cheers! [ March 28, 2002: Message edited by: leonarde ]
|

Agreed, RD.
He/she is from Singapore, after all. It is conceivable that English is not his/her first language. |

Boro Nut Actually, I think it just goes to demonstrate the general tendency that atheists are much better educated than christians are, or they wouldn't still be christians, surely. We certainly seem to know a hell of a lot more about their student rag-week magazine than they do, and when it comes to expressing ourselves clearly they are simply nowhere near as good as what we is. |

Boro Nut,
You are from England apparently: do you think that Malcolm Muggeridge was well-educated? |

AFAIK Answerer is an atheist, not a Christian, English is his/her second language, and all this hacking on a simple grammatical error is way out of line. I doubt any of you could participate meaningfully on a Chinese discussion board. Although it was my impression Answerer is from China, not Singapore, and is currently living in Australia.

I happened to make the acquaintance of a couple
of persons from Singapore recently: a young woman of Indian heritage who speaks fluent English and Hindi (though I don't have the impression the latter is spoken so much in Singapore)and a young man of apparent Chinese ancestry (he has good if heavily accented English). He told me that Singapore has 4 official languages: 1)English. 2)Chinese (but SEVERAL dialects of Chinese) 3)Tamil 4)Malay (which has another name that I have forgotten). Naturally not all residents speak all these languages equally well. Do we really want to mock people's English speaking/writing skills based on their religious beliefs? |

Hi guys, what is the problem with everyone of you. I remember asking all of you to comment on the websites not about me and my whereabouts. Yes, I make some mistakes in the first post because I didn't check, so, is this what all of you consider to be 'poor' in English? If everyone of you here think that only the Europeans(mainly the British) and Americans are good at English, then I felt sorry for the prejudice minds that all of you have.
Well Turtomn, just as I expect, you are here to give another stab on the chinese, is it? You will be disappointed to find out that I'm not from China and neither am I from Australia. However, I certainly know more than you do about China, so please think carefully before you comment again. Furthermore, guys, I'm not a christan or a muslim and recently I meet a christian who told me about this miracles and so I post the websites that describe all these miracles here, so as to see what the responses to these websites will be liked. Then again ,if all of you don't wish to say anything , I will not force anyone of you. [ March 29, 2002: Message edited by: Answerer ]
|
