Gee, we must be a weird couple. My husband told me that one of the things he loves about me is that I'm his intellectual equal.
He actually likes being able to speak his thoughts and get an intelligent response instead of a blank look or a "Huh?" in reply. Now in certain areas, he is more knowledgable than I am, but the same could be said for me. But so far as sheer raw IQ goes, we're more or less on a par. He's better with computers than I am, so I go to him for help with computer stuff. I'm better at the mechanics of writing (spelling, grammar, sentence structure, etc.) than he is, so he asks me to proof his written work. He's a better cook, so he handles that. I'm better at keeping track of the bills, so I handle that. We BOTH suck at housework, so we avoid it together. It may be that one of us is smarter than the other, but it's close enough that I couldn't tell you which one. And we both like it that way. |

Since women have boy children and girl children, and there is a hereditary component to intelligence, if women on the upper end aren't reproducing because of a lack of a suitable mate, wouldn't that make for a less "smart" generation of both boys and girls overall?
That's part of the reason I was arguing in favor of single parenting by women (in that thread started by Anna Karenina a while back, I'll try to provide a link) if they are past 30 and have the means on their own to raise children and the desire to do so. |

I believe that there is in actual, studied fact an inverse correlation between the level of a woman's education and the number of children she has.
I don't think you'd breed just stupid women if you insisted they marry up for intelligence, you'd breed stupid boys too. You could however get past most of this problem by allowing polygamy, such that the really bright men could have more than one wife. This might mean that the really stupid men wouldn't get to marry at all, which might prove overall better eugenically. muses In my long gone college days I remember a conversation where a guy who'd gone to an all boys prep school said that his roommate there wanted a stupid wife because she'd be restful after a hard days work locking horns with his intellectual equals. My immediate response was that he was an idiot. Unfortunately no-one asked me to explain: so now you are stuck with reading them. First, I don't care how stupid someone is; humans have good emotion detectors and he'd make her miserable because she would know his contempt for her; and second, would he really want stupid kids? Silly. Even sillier now that we know that the prenatal enviroment is so important for fetal development, and I wouldn't be surprised to find that part of a child's intelligence depended on having a mother who had good biology and the best indicator of that would be that she was intelligent herself (because then her mother would have had it etc.). Not that that would be invariably true, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was statistically true. |

Does anyone else think that men who say these things are just pissed because smart girls won't even give them the time of day, much less a date?
