Post "curse" words

is there any biblical basis that show how "curse" words are bad? I'm not really looking for a verse that says something about "do not speak with a harsh tonuge" or something like that, because that can apply to non-"curse" words.

I would be more offended if someone says they hate me, than if they happened to say "you're the fucking man!" even though "hate" is not a "curse" word. And apparently, I seem to like using a lot of quotes...

"Curse" words are socialized, they are a matter of time, place, culture, and language. If you just look at the English language for the past 300yrs. you'll notice what was a curse word then is something we don't even pause at now. The words themselves are not the problem, it is only how people view those particular words. The only one that could be considered as a sin in the Bible would be the third commandment (God's name in vain, yadda yadda).

Indeed. Hope this isn't an urban legend, but
one of the "worst" actually started as an
acronym placed over people punished on public display...

From <a href="http://www.snopes2.com/language/acronyms/fuck.htm" target="_blank">Snopes2.com</a>:

Quote:
[Fuck] is a very old word, recorded in English since the 15th century (few acronyms predate the 20th century), with cognates in other Germanic languages. The Random House Historical Dictionary of American Slang (Random House, 1994, ISBN 0-394-54427-7) cites Middle Dutch fokken = "to thrust, copulate with"; Norwegian dialect fukka = "to copulate"; and Swedish dialect focka = "to strike, push, copulate" and fock = "penis". Although German ficken may enter the picture somehow, it is problematic in having e-grade, or umlaut, where all the others have o-grade or zero-grade of the vowel.
Thanks MTY, for helping me out with this one .
