Gay bishop?
Something I'm reading right now in the newspaper....
"The Episcopal Church USA yesterdady cleared the way for an openly gay man to become a bishop. By a vote of 118-63, the House of Deputies of the church's General Convention ratified the election of the Rev. Canon V. Gene Robinson to head the Diocese of New Hampshire. ...'I believe God is doing a new thing in the world,' Robinson told a new conference after yesterday's vote..." ('Episcopal deputies approve gay bishop-elect' in the Philadelphia Inquirer) But this seems to say that the voting has been postponed...must've just been updated http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/08/04/gay.bishop/index.html |

He has passed two of the three elections that he needs to pass to become bishop. The first election that he passed was by his diocese in New Hampshire, the second was by the House of Deputies (a body of clergy and lay members of the Episcopal Church), and the third and final election that he must still pass will be by the other Bishops in his church (if I remember correctly).
